We have officially entered the most dangerous and exciting week of the year in Aggieland…the week leading up to the ‘Bama game. For some reason, when the Crimson Tide rolls into town, everyone’s veins fill with a burning desire to BTHO Alabama. It is a rivalry that one cannot even begin to describe, because even if you are a “two-percenter,” you know that those wearing crimson are the sworn enemies of those who “whoop” on the sidelines at every game.
Aggie Football is a religion here in the BCS area and when Alabama comes to town, it feels like a revival of the Babylonian war is going to take place inside Kyle Field. Unfortunately, due to the injury of starting quarterback Haynes King, as well as a slew of other top Aggie players, the Texas A&M football season hasn’t followed the predicted path. As a football team, we’ve entered the trenches and suffered two tragic losses over the past two weeks. However, as any true Ag knows, this won’t stop fans from camping out to pull game tickets and flooding into Kyle on Saturday to cheer loud for their team. It almost seems as if these losses have lit a fire inside fans hoping that this team can pull out a key upset over the number one team in the nation. There is hope. There is something lurking in the streets of College Station that cannot be stomped out by a few losses…The Aggie Spirit.
As for those who are not in the stadium or on campus, many individuals in the BCS area are looking to capitalize on this upcoming weekend. The tourism revenue that the area receives this week is unparalleled. Local businesses have been going out of their way to make sure foot traffic enters their establishments and capitalize in every aspect.
It’s hard to describe the feeling of being in town during the Alabama week. Somehow, someway, it is like being in another world. These are the experiences that Aggies live for…the moments when strangers become family. This Saturday will be a very monumental week for many people around the area and, as fans make their way through the turnstiles of Kyle, so too will revenue flow into the pockets of many local BCS establishments. Win, lose, or tie, this weekend will surely be a win for BCS businesses.
